SKILL BUILDING AT THE ALCOTT CENTERCommunity Living Options operates Skill Building Programs that serve adults with a mental illness and/or developmental disability. This program gives individuals the opportunity to work one-on-one or in a small group with an instructor to develop or enhance skills in the community. The purpose of the Skill Building Program is to provide purposeful and meaningful activities to support and promote each consumer toward greater independence. Community integration is a high priority as well as consumer choice. Services are directed towards improving an individual’s ability to: participate in the community; achieve greater personal self-sufficiency; develop practical living and coping skills; and develop natural support networks through community integration. Services are driven by an individually designed service/support plan based on each person’s unique needs, desires and abilities. Our facility-based Skill Building Programs are open weekdays. Supports in the community are scheduled around each person’s individual need. Capacity for our facility-based Programs is limited by space constraints, but the capacity for our community-based Programs is unlimited. Programs offer individuals who are disadvantaged the opportunity to acquire and maintain work skills.
